a few shots from this AM
brrrr....
cold this morning in Washington DC
wintry cold... maybe not Alaska cold... or even Northeast or Midwest cold... but definitely cold for this time of year in DC
brisk... chilly... frigid
a sheet of ice where ever water stood the days prior
not sure if ponds, puddles, and pools are starting to freeze
it is cold... not painfully cold... perhaps just a few degrees less than pleasant
people are still on their bikes
ah... with the mountain bike and the cyclocross seasons behind me I think it may be time to relax
funny... I think I may have already started to relax
I may have started to relax in September
it seems as if my feet have spend more time on the coffee table than on the pedals
this lack of time was visible in my cyclocross race efforts this fall
my results were less than stellar
not that I am all that fast on the cross bike
but it was most certainly not my personal best on the bike
although my riding sucked... my race photography is getting better!

without any racing goals in the immediate foreground I can accept the onset of dormancy of winter
winter weight is already creeping on at its usual pace
sure I should fight the weight gain but as important as riding can be resting is also important
my body is tired
my legs are sore and my shoulder is still injured
all year I rode and race with a separated shoulder
my shoulder would heal... start to feel better... than I would injure it again
guess I never took enough time off to let it fully heal
so... this morning after walking the dog and then taking the kids to school I rode into work directly
I did not PASS GO... I did not COLLECT TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS
I rode in straight... not in lycra and gortex... but in street shoes and corduroys
which of course rules out the option of a post work ride
this is fine... time off the bike is as important as time on the bike
and really I need to heal so that I can be more effective on the bike in 2011
2010 was an amazing year on the bike... although my Cyclocross Season was less than dynamic...
on the mountain bike I was a moderately efficient machine
some highlights include winning the Clydesdale Class at the Greenbrier Challenge which is the Maryland State Championship
then also winning the Clydesdale Class at the West Virginia Mountain Bike State Championship
